Earlier this month, Safework Australia, has published a new guide on having an Asbestos register in the workplace.
This update is for those who manage and control a workplace, for them to develop and maintain a comprehensive Asbestos Register. But first, what is an Asbestos Register?
An Asbestos Register is a workplace safety management tool that states the type, location, condition and date of identification of all material at the workplace that are identified, assumed, and are likely to contain asbestos so that the material is not accidentally disturbed. This needs to be readily available to all employees in case of emergencies. Additionally there should be safety measures in case the material is disturbed.
This is highly important if your workplace was built or installed before 2004 or before 1990 in Queensland.
