Developing Story - Victorian Government's actions regarding Mr. Fluffy

This is quite controversial but finding Asbestos in the home is actually quite common in Australia - specifically if your home was built before 1980.

Now, if you're new here and not know what Asbestos is, it's a slow and silent killer. Once it is disturbed and not handled properly, it can go in your lungs and cause cancer, mesothelioma, and other lung diseases

Check out our blog about the diseases here

The amount of deaths caused by asbestos is obviously a cause of concern, especially because it's virtually untraceable. This has caused tension between homeowners and the government because although the use and importation of asbestos has been banned, there are still an alarming number of homes that have asbestos. If your house had asbestos, you will need to hire an asbestos removalist if you are renovating to ensure it is properly disposed of, or else you will face fines. Because of the costs involved, a lot of homeowners are left to decide if they will live in an asbestos house or pay specialist costs to legally remove it.

In Victoria though, it looks like the government is setting up a buyback scheme and it comes at a good time now that house prices are rising.

Hopefully this happens, and that other states follow suit.

We will update this blog post accordingly.
